Anastasia Ailamaki

Dr. Anastasia Ailamaki is a Full Professor of Computer Sciences at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. She has received a Finmeccanica endowed chair from the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon (2007), a European Young Investigator Award from the European Science Foundation (2007), an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship (2005), seven best-paper awards at top conferences (2001-2011), and an NSF CAREER award (2002). She is a member of IEEE and ACM, and has also been a CRA-W mentor. Professor Ailamaki is a leading expert in architecture-conscious database systems and her work spans core database research, computer architecture, data management on modern storage devices, and more recently data management in the cloud. She has published more than 140 papers and has served on numerous program committees (VLDB, SIGMOD, EDBT, ICDE, CIDR, etc.), including as PC-Chair of EDBT 2011, PC-Chair of ICDE 2007, PC-Chair of ICDE 2004. She received a M.S. degree in Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Crete, Greece, in 1993, a M.S. degree in Computer Science from University of Rochester, USA in 1996 and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from University of Wisconsin, Madison USA, in 2000.
